Illicit assets obtained from the $35 million Atomic Wallet attack have been sent to a cryptocurrency mixer known to be preferred by North Korea’s most notorious cyber-hacking squad, according to CoinTelegraph on Tuesday.
According to the article, blockchain compliance analytics firm Elliptic announced on June 5 that its Investigations Team has linked assets from the $35 million Atomic Wallet heist to crypto mixer Sinbad.io.
According to Elliptic, the mixing service has already been used to launder more than $100 million in crypto assets stolen by North Korea’s Lazarus Group.
Atomic wallet underwent an attack from June 2 which led to a loss of $35 million from the firm. In a statement, the firm later said that the hack had affected only 1% of it’s monthly active users.
Elliptic did not say how much was transmitted to the mixer, but he did say that the loot was exchanged for Bitcoin before being obscured by the mixer.
