An anti-corruption body revealed Sunday that El Salvador’s development bank, BANDESAL, has refused to provide information on the government’s controversial Bitcoin purchases. El Salvador’s Anti-Corruption Legal Advisory Center (ALAC), which provides citizens with legal assistance in speaking out against corruption, released a document from the bank in a late weekend tweet. BANDESAL states in the document that it cannot reveal “confidential” information. The Salvadoran government uses BANDESAL to manage funds for its Bitcoin projects. Last year, the tiny Central American country became the world’s first to accept cryptocurrency as legal tender.
