El Salvador, the first country in the world to make Bitcoin legal tender, plans to open a “Bitcoin embassy” in Texas, according to Milena Mayorga, the country’s US ambassador. This follows a similar initiative last year in Switzerland to encourage the use of cryptocurrencies. Mayorga referred to Texas as a “new ally,” and she stated that she had met with Deputy Secretary of the Government of Texas, Joe Esparza, to discuss opening the Bitcoin office and expanding commercial and exchange projects. Texas is home to several large Bitcoin mining operations.
