Additional European Union legislation on non-fungible tokens could be issued if lawmakers request it, according to an official from the bloc’s executive arm on Wednesday. “The parliament is working on a resolution on NFTs,” said Peter Kerstens, head of the European Commission’s financial technology task force, referring to a procedure in which members of the European Parliament can express their views on a specific policy issue. The Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) law of the EU left the treatment of NFTs, which provide digital proofs of ownership, somewhat ambiguous. However, the uncertainty may leave the door open for additional policy actions, according to Kerstens, who is also a senior advisor at the commission’s financial services department.
