The FBI arrested and charged the co-founder of blockchain event startup Blockparty today with stealing $1 million in cash and cryptocurrency from the company and spending it on luxury items. Rikesh Thapa, 28, who was Blockparty’s CTO from 2017 to 2019, allegedly stole 10 Bitcoin from the company and falsified trading records to cover his tracks, according to the Department of Justice. Thapa is also accused of stealing $1 million in cash. According to the DOJ, he agreed to keep the money in his personal bank account while the company investigated banking options. Authorities claim that Thapa later refused to return the money and instead spent it on himself.
