France’s financial markets authority (AMF), according to its chair, Marie-Anne Barbat Layani, wants to force crypto companies to obtain a licence if they are not already registered in the country. Barbat-Layani appeared to be supporting a French Senate proposal last year that would require crypto firms to seek regulatory recognition ahead of the European Union’s new Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation, which is set to take effect on October 1, 2023. “The AMF, like the parliament, calls for an expedited transition to a regime of mandatory licencing for unregistered providers of crypto services,” Barbat-Layani said at an event, according to the regulator’s tweet.
