U.S. Attorney Damian Williams announced Wednesday night that FTX co-founder and former CTO Gary Wang and former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison had pleaded guilty to charges related to their roles in the FTX fraud that contributed to the company’s demise. According to Williams, Wang and Ellison are both cooperating with the Justice Department’s investigation. Williams did not specify the charges levelled against Wang and Ellison, as well as those to which each pleaded guilty. In a separate action, the SEC announced late Wednesday that it had charged both Wang and Ellison with defrauding FTX investors, noting that both were cooperating with the SEC’s investigation and had reached settlements with the SEC.
