Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, has agreed to improve its legal compliance process in a first-of-its-kind settlement with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) after failing to produce data on the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e in 2016. According to a news release issued by the Department of Justice on Wednesday, the tech giant will “ensure timely and complete responses to legal process such as subpoenas and search warrants” in the future. In 2016, the department served a search warrant on Google, demanding that the company turn over data it had on BTC-e. On Thursday, the company stated that it is taking numerous steps to ensure that such legal complications do not occur again.
