The Group of 20 (G20) major economies are investigating whether they can collectively regulate cryptocurrencies, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday. Given the sophisticated technologies involved with these virtual assets, countries must debate whether a particular regulation is necessary, according to Sitharaman, whose country is this year’s G20 president. The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been debating drafting a law to regulate or even ban cryptocurrencies for several years but has yet to make a final decision.
