The International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO), also known as Interpol, is looking into ways to police crimes in the metaverse. However, a top Interpol executive believes that defining a metaverse crime is difficult. According to the BBC, Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock stated that the agency intends to monitor criminal activity in the metaverse. Stock emphasised “sophisticated and professional” criminals’ ability to adapt to new technological tools for committing crimes. The decision to police the metaverse comes nearly four months after Interpol launched its own metaverse at the 90th Interpol General Assembly in New Delhi, India, in October 2022.
