According to a study, India ranks third in the world for the number of women who own cryptocurrency, with nearly 10 per cent of its female population investing in this new asset class.
The study, conducted by the foreign exchange education portal Forex Suggest, shows that India has 9.2 percent, or, 63 million female cryptocurrency owners out of a total of around 685 million women.
Sharat Chandra, a blockchain and emerging tech evangelist, explained that this trend is driven by various factors, such as the desire to explore new assets, the quest for employment independence, the increase in financial literacy and general awareness, and the curiosity to try new asset classes.
The study also reveals that Vietnam is the leader in female cryptocurrency ownership, with 12 million women, or 24 per cent of its female population, holding digital coins.
Vietnam also has the most balanced gender distribution in cryptocurrency ownership, with 47 per cent of its owners being women.
The Philippines is the second country on the list, with 9.6 per cent of its female population, or over 5.5 million women, owning cryptocurrency.
