Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio has suggested that federal agencies in the United States, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), “maybe” consider a cryptocurrency ban. During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he did admit that such a ban would be “very difficult” because the crypto industry would be forced to relocate. “We want them to do what they need to do at the same time—maybe banning it, although banning it is very difficult because it will go offshore and who knows how that will work,” he said of the various regulators in the United States.
