According to a United Nations official interviewed by Bloomberg, cryptocurrency-financed terror attacks have likely quadrupled in the last few years. According to Svetlana Martynova, a senior legal officer at the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, 5% of terrorist attacks were crypto-financed or linked to digital assets a few years ago. “Right now, we’re thinking about 20%,” she said. Martynova also spoke about terror financing at a United Nations Security Council meeting in Mumbai, which was one of the sites of a Nov. 26, 2008, attack that killed 175 people and injured over 300 more.
