Evgeny Gaevoy, Wintermute’s founder and CEO, tweeted that the cryptocurrency market maker had lost $160 million in a hack involving its decentralized finance (Defi) operation. He added in the tweet that the company’s lending and over-the-counter (OTC) services had not been affected by the hack and continued to run as before. Gaevoy claimed that the business is still solvent, with “twice over” $160 million in equity still available. Wintermute is the most recent in a long line of cryptocurrency businesses that have suffered cyberattacks in recent months. Wintermute was announced as the Tron network’s official Defi market maker last week.
