A report by the blockchain security firm CertiK revealed that crypto-related crimes resulted in more than $45 million worth of digital assets being stolen from their owners in August 2023 alone.
The report also stated that the total amount of losses due to such crimes reached $997 million in 2023 so far.
The report broke down the losses by different types of crimes, such as exit scams ($26 million), flash loan attacks ($6.4 million) and exploits ($13.5 million) that occurred in August 2023.
Some of the notable cases that caused these losses were the Zunami Protocol attack ($2.2 million), the Exactly Protocol exploit ($7.3 million) and the PEPEwithdrawal incident ($13.2 million).
The report by CertiK showed that exploits, hacks and scams have taken more than $997 million from crypto users in 2023 to date.
This sum comprises around $261 million from flash loan attacks, over $137 million from exit scams and more than $596 million from exploits.
