The Bank of England (BoE) said on Wednesday that it has formed a digital pound advisory group and is presently hiring for it as the country enters the design process for its central bank digital currency (CBDC).
The bank, in collaboration with the Treasury, the government’s financial department, which has been assisting with the country’s CBDC work, is seeking academics and researchers to express their interest in joining the group.
A CBDC is a type of digital currency issued by a central bank.
The Academic Advisory Group is intended to bring together professionals in finance, economics, business, and other fields.
“Through this group, we seek to generate expert academic input and promote interdisciplinary discussions on a wide range of topics related to retail CBDC,” the BoE stated on its website.
