National and international corporations will take part in the future Brazilian central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot initiative. The country’s central bank, Banco Central do Brasil, will begin adding members to the digital real platform around the middle of June 2023. The central bank issued the final list of CBDC pilot participants on May 24. Participants were chosen from a pool of 36 applications submitted by individual corporations and coalitions comprising “over 100 institutions.” The total number of participants is 14, however some are corporate organisations. One of the 14 participants is Microsoft, a US-based technology corporation; Banco Inter, a Brazilian bank; and 7COMm, a digital technology company. Visa, Santander, and numerous Brazilian banks, including Banco do Brasil, are among the other participants.
