The Bellatrix update, Ethereum Merge’s key step, has kicked off successfully as per the previously set timeline of Sept. 6, officially starting the Merge process. The Bellatrix update was announced previously and has been in talks for the past week. According to a CoinDesk reporter tweet, the actual Merge event is going as per schedule and will happen sometime between 10-15 September. Bellatrix update has made changes to the Beacon chain triggering the Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) value and starting the Merge process. Ethereum is planning to shift to ‘Proof-of-stake’ (PoS) consensus model from the current ‘Proof-of-work’ (PoW) model under ‘Merge’, ditching the old school mining and shifting to an upgrade where the owners of ether/ETH will be able to stake it in order to run the blockchain.
