N.korea linked hackers are supposedly behind a cyberattack on CoinEx, a Hong Kong-based crypto exchange, which resulted in a $70 million loss of its digital assets.
The exchange announced the breach on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday and said that only a “small portion” of its total assets was affected.
According to Elliptic, a blockchain research firm, the evidence points to the Lazarus Group, a hacker group with ties to North Korea, as the perpetrators of the theft.
CoinEx has not named any suspects for the attack, but it has acknowledged to Reuters that some security firms have attributed it to North Korean-linked cyber-espionage teams.
