CoinsPaid, a cryptocurrency payments platform, has blamed the North Korean state-backed Lazarus Group for hacking into its internal systems and stealing $37.3 million on July 22.
“We suspect Lazarus Group, one of the most powerful hacker organisations, is to blame,” CoinsPaid wrote on July 26.
While CoinsPaid did not specify how the money was stolen, the event forced the company to shut down for four days.
CoinsPaid confirmed that operations have resumed in a new, constrained environment.
The firm noted that customer funds are still intact, but the platform and the firm’s financial sheet have suffered significant damage.
Despite the massive exploit, CoinsPaid believes the cybercrime group was after a considerably larger sum.
