Despite having yet to exit beta, Worldcoin, the iris-scanning cryptocurrency project led by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, continues to draw investors. The Financial Times claimed that Worldcoin is “in advanced talks” on a fresh round of financing for around $100 million, citing three people with knowledge of the matter. According to one of the sources, the round is supported by both existing and new investors. The previous round of funding for Worldcoin includes venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Khosla Ventures, raising the project’s valuation to $3 billion. It also completed a $25 million Series A investment round led by a16z in October 2021, with other investors including Digital Currency Group, Coinbase Ventures, and Multicoin.
