The chief of crypto enforcement at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has promised a crackdown on unlawful behaviour on trading platforms, according to the Financial Times (FT) on Monday. The DOJ is targeting crypto exchanges that allow “criminal actors to easily profit from their crimes and cash out,” according to Eun Young Choi, director of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), as a means of combating crypto crime, which she claims has grown “significantly” in the last four years. Choi went on to say that the department’s focus is on enterprises that violate anti-money laundering or know-your-customer regulations or fail to engage in rigorous compliance and risk mitigation.
